St Mary’s Women’s Schola

The St Mary’s Women’s Schola sings at the 5 pm Saturday Mass on a rotating schedule with the other parish choral ensembles. In weeks of performance, rehearsals are at 8.30 pm on Wednesday and at 4 pm on Saturday.

The Women’s Schola sings the anthems, the psalm and Gospel verses as well as the Introit, Offertory and Communion antiphons. This fine ensemble sings in several languages, particularly in Latin. The type of music that the Women’s Schola sings ranges from ancient chant through the high Renaissance, and extends into selected appropriate music of the modern age.

Membership in this ensemble is open to all women beginning at age 16. A friendly audition by the choirmaster will ask prospective singers to demonstrate a pleasant singing voice and basic requirements of aural/tonal memory, pitch-matching. Singers do not have to be members of St Mary’s Church to participate, nor do they have to be a member of the adult choir.

This is an excellent opportunity for women who love singing to add their talent in worship without having to commit to a weekly regimen of rehearsals.
