Basketball - Girls and Boys
St. Mary’s Ducks and Lady Ducks have already established a reputation as a power house in Basketball. The Boys’ team brought home the Diocese of Charleston Youth Basketball Tournament Championship in 2006 and the Girls’ team brought home the Trophy in 2007. St. Mary’s own Julie Spitzmiller was named the 2007 Tournament Most Valuable Player. The Girls’ concluded a perfect season by winning the Carolina Middle School Confernce 2007 Regular Season and Tournament Trophys. Both teams won the Carolina Middle School Conference in 2006.
The success of the Ducks continued during the 2007-2008 school year. Both teams wrapped up their seasons last week end in Aiken at the diocese of Charleston Youth Basketball tournament. For the second year in a row, our Lady Ducks won the Senior Girls championship. This remarkable team has won all their games in the last 2 years, amassing a record of 48-0. In the past 2 years, they have won the Diocesan and Carolina Middle School championships both years. St. Mary’s own Katie Anderson was named the 2008 DOCYBT Most Valuable Player. Our Ducks also had a great season, finishing third in the Carolina Middle School Conference regular season and tournament. The Ducks had a record of 2-1 in the Diocesan tournament.
During the 2008-2009 season, the Lady Ducks won the CMSC championship and finished second in the Catholic State Tournamanent. They did not lose any regular season games and had 70 game winning streak over a period of 3 years. The streak ended with a loss in the Catholic State championship game. The Ducks finished the season with a 16-6 record, and finished third in the CMSC championship and the Catholic State Championship.
Congratulations to the 2009-2010 St. Mary’s Girls Middle School Basketball Team, who recently won the Carolina Middle School (CMS) Conference Tournament. The Lady Ducks won in overtime on a 3 point shot by Mosely Palms. The Lady Ducks completed the season with a record of 13-4 earning them Runner-Up in regular conference play. Kara Hunt and Kilian Meilinger were named to the All Conference Team.
The 2009-2010 Boys team completed the season with a record of 13-4 earning them Runner-Up in regular conference play. The Ducks placed 3rd in the Tournament with a win over Spartanburg Day. Christopher Bondura and Connor Donohue were selected to the All Conference Team.
The Lady Ducks were coached by Coach Willis Holliday. The Ducks were coached by Coach Willis Holliday with assistance from Coach Marlon Mitchell during the tournament games. In 3 years with the Ducks and Lady Ducks, Coach Holliday has a record of 121-13 (91% winning record).
