Extra-Curricular Clubs
Rosary Club
Meeting before school on Wednesday mornings, students will have an opportunity to pray the rosary together. This is a wonderful expresion of our love for Mary while reflecting on the life and ministry of Jesus, drawing us ever closer to God. Students will also have an opportunity to offer special intentions while praying the rosary together.
Book Club
Under the guidance of a teacher and parent volunteers, students in grades 2-4 will have the opportunity to join a monthly after-school book club. The only cost involved will be the purchase of the book. Our goal will be to have fun! Assigned jobs such as “wild and wacky word finder” or “selection director” as well as theme parties will bring the book to life while also increasing vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.
Kids Are Authors
Students in grades 5-8 will have an opportunity to work in teams writing and illustrating a book, and then submitting their finished work to Scholastic for a national competition. The winning book will be published and distributed at Scholastic Fairs nationwide. This creative process helps provide a natural environment to practice editing, teamwork, and communication skills.
Chess Club
Students in grades 1-8 will have the opportunity to learn and/or refine their chess skills in this after-school club. Depending on their experience, students will be taught chess basics while others will be preparing for possible tournament play. Chess has long been considered a way for students to increase their mental prowess, concentration, memory, and analytical skills.
To someone passing by, St. Mary’s may look just like any other school….... to those of us who are a part of St. Mary’s, it is so much more.
